Noussair Mazraoui has made his intentions clear at Manchester United. After rejecting a move to West Ham United.
According to reports from various media outlets. Mazraoui has agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants. But United still have to settle the fee with Bayern Munich with the latest bid rejected.
Mazraoui joined from Ajax on a free transfer in 2022. But has failed to make the impact he was expected to, scoring one goal and providing eight assists in 55 games in all competitions across two seasons with the club.
The Morocco international has struggled for fitness with a muscle injury. Which saw Mazraoui miss eight Bundesliga games in his first season.
Mazraoui then made a good start to the 2023/24 season. But fitness issues once again hampered his progression as he missed several games with a muscle tear.
Despite the injury, Mazraoui travelled to Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations. But only played in one game, a last-16 clash against South Africa.
These injury problems led Bayern to sign full-back Sacha Boey from Galatasaray for €30 million.
Boeh’s arrival could signal the end of Mazraoui’s time at Bayern. Although the French right-back is set to miss the rest of the ยูฟ่าเบท season due to injury, but Boeh seems to fit Bayern’s needs at right-back more than anything.
Quicker and more agile, and better in one-on-one situations, Boehly appears to mirror what Bayern have in their other full-back, Alphonso Davies.
The situation is further complicated by the return of Joshua Kimmich to right-back, leaving Bayern with plenty of options at right-back.
Bayern also need to reduce their wage bill before adding new players, and selling Mazraoui makes sense.
The Bundesliga giants are hoping to sell Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United, who are joined by the pair’s former boss Erik ten Hag.
But even though personal terms have been agreed, the Mazraoui deal still faces obstacles.
Of course, United will have to sell another right-back. Before they can add Mazraoui and are in talks to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham United.
The release of Wan-Bissaka has divided the Manchester United fans because the player is not that old, only 26 years old, the same as Mazraoui, and has the advantage of being a one-on-one duel that is difficult for anyone to overcome.
“Diogo Dalot is the first choice at right-back, but Wan-Bissaka is a strong back-up option,” said Transfermarkt commentator Ewan Robertson.
“There are few, if any, defenders better at one-on-one than Wan-Bissaka, and Mazraoui is not an upgrade.”
“United would have to pay a bit more to bring Masarui to Old Trafford then they would get from selling Wan-Bissaka to West Ham. However, the problem for United is that Wan-Bissaka is in the final year of his contract and he is on a very high wage bill.”
“But like Bayern, United have also had to take a pay cut. United are replacing Dalot at full-back and, although Mazarui will have to pay a small increase, the Moroccan will receive a lower wage than his predecessor.”
